Plaza 8 de Diciembre, Concepción, Bolivia

Ipswich Street Bridge, Boston, Massachusetts, USA
One could say adventure travel runs in Geoff's family. A descendant of the hardy souls who founded much of New England and further afield (French Guiana, anyone?), Geoff spent his formative years alternating between Portugal's ridiculously sunny Algarve coast and Massachusetts' somewhat sunny North Shore.
Between incessant trips abroad, Geoff studied Japanese at Harvard and IT policy/transfer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He switched gears after university, walking a fine line between jaunts in global finance and financing global jaunts, before deciding upon the latter as an infinitely preferable vocation.
Until recently an academic at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Geoff now works with governments and NGOs in Latin America, assessing, developing, and promoting international involvement in sustainable development initiatives, in particular cultural tourism. At present, his activities are focused on two utterly gorgeous areas: Bolivia's Chiquitania and the Mexican state of Zacatecas.
Geoff also holds a dual position at Mexico's Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) as its senior consultant for international relations and as a visiting professor.
He has written and lectured extensively on eastern Bolivia, especially on the remote and beautiful Chiquitania. Co-author of three best-selling books, his guides are considered without peer and have been translated into 12 languages. His articles and photographs have appeared in some of the world's best-known magazines, newspapers, and academic and trade journals.
Geoff is an acknowledged expert on the Jesuit missions of the Chiquitos, for which his writings, photography, and award-winning Web site have won international acclaim.
He is fluent in English and Spanish, less so in Latin, and barely remembers a few words in Japanese.
